This tiny bus-powered hard drive weighs less than 10 ounces, but is powerful enough to support high track-count audio sessions, and has been tested and approved with Digidesign Pro Tools™. Designed with a fanless, light aluminum enclosure, it allows you to work on the road easily and reliably. If bus power is not available or is insufficient, you can use the included power supply.

    Now with G-Shock Protection
Let's say you're on location recording multi-track audio, or transferring massive amounts of video from P2 cards to your PortaGig 800. Now let's say you accidentally bump the drive and it falls off the table. You'll be happy to know that all 7,200-RPM PortaGig models come with G-Force Protection, which parks the heads when a fall is detected, protecting your data.

    Connectivity
The PortaGig has a small, portable, aluminum case and runs quietly with its fanless design. It has two FireWire 800 ports and one USB 2.0 port, a fast internal SATA II drive, Oxford 934 chip, and a rear power switch. Designed for field recording, moving audio, video, graphics, and prepress files, it includes a universal power supply and a carrying sleeve.

    Speeds and Performance
PortaGig 800 drives are available in 7,200 and 5,400 RPM models and use only Seagate brand hard disk mechanisms. Seagate drives live up to their reputation for performance, quality, and durability. All models of the PortaGig 800 perform well in an audio environment, however the 7,200 RPM models have slightly higher track counts compared to the 5,400 RPM models due to their higher transfer rates.

    Shock Protection
All 7,200-RPM PortaGig models come with G-Force Protection, Seagate’s unique safety feature perfectly suited to the realities of portable recording because of its extra robustness. G-Force Protection uses a drop sensor to detect that the drive is in free fall, and moves the read/write heads to safety before a shock takes place in falls of greater than 8 inches (nominal). This process provides protection against shock that may occur while the drive is operating, and is designed to decrease the likelihood of data loss.

    Tested and Approved
The PortaGig has been qualified with Digidesign Pro Tools™ to support over 70 tracks of 24bit / 48k audio, with edits.

    Hardware Requirements:

USB and BUS Power: The included USB cable is a "Y" cable: one end connects to the drive and two ends can be connected to the computer. In some situations, a single USB port will not supply enough USB bus power for the PortaGig 800, and two computer USB ports are needed. Due to differing bus power specs, the safest choice is to use the PortaGig 800 with the included DC power supply. Additionally, the DC power supply should be used with PortaGig 800 in capacities of 200GB or higher. FireWire 800 (9-pin to 9-pin) cable
